Committee for Children

Committee for Children is a nonprofit and creator of Second Step, an anti-bullying currirulum used at Quincy Jones Elementary School. By teaching students through role playing, discussions and visual texts, Second Step is designed to help students become more empathetic towards their peers. Our goal is to create an school environment where safety and well-being of all students is a priority. You may visit the Committee for Children's blog for more useful articles on mindfulness, bullying prevention, parenting and much more.

Grief and Loss

We have been through tremendous loss during the Covid-19 pandemic. Here is a list of books that help young people understand death and deal with grief and loss.

Restorative Justice

Restorative Justice

Restorative Justice is a program for educators, families and communities to nurture and foster the socio-emotional well-being of the whole child in school and the community. Designed to keep young people safe from the social justice inequities, Restorative Justice is a therapeutic support program aimed at building a caring, safe environment where every student's voice is heard.

Parents can participate in this program by having the community circles at home.

Beat the Odds

Beat the Odds
Beat the Odds is a therapeutic drumming program created to give children a safe, loving environment at school. Through rhythm, beats and collaborative music making, our students make connections to their peers. You may reinforce these lessons at home by discussing what was learned and you can even practice percussion on any space such as pots, pans, tables and walls. You can even research on the Internet on how to make your own drum at home!
